FAQ's

How often do my items need to be PAT tested?

There’s no fixed legal frequency for PAT testing in the UK. Instead, the IET Code of Practice recommends testing based on a risk assessment that considers the type of equipment, how and where it’s used, how often it's used, and its maintenance history. For example, office equipment in a low-risk environment may only need testing every few years, while tools on a construction site might require testing every few months. The key is to assess the risks and set a schedule that keeps people safe. Get in touch if you'd like to discuss this with us and we can point you in the right direction.

Is PAT testing a legal requirement in the UK?

No, PAT testing itself is not a legal requirement. However, under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, employers must ensure electrical equipment is safe to use, which often involves regular inspection and testing. In addition to this, insurance companies often require regular PAT testing as part of their terms and conditions so its always worth checking with them.

Do we carry out repairs during PAT testing?

During PAT testing, we carry out minor repairs, such as replacing faulty plugs, fuses, or damaged cables. Any issues that require more extensive repairs will need to be handled separately by a qualified technician or replaced by an appropriate alternative.
